September 2003 NEWSLETTER

September 20, 2003

Dear Members,

It appears that October will be a busy month for the Harmony Kingdom collector.

Next Meeting:  Save the 6th of October at 4:00 pm for a meeting at Ivy Glen, 20829 Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, (818) 719-9192.  While the store is still located within the same mall, they recently moved to the space facing the street.  Owners Gail and Lisa are always pleased to see us and have many lovely items in home furnishings, besides Harmony Kingdom, so please try to get there early to shop and socialize.  I would ask that you bring your own chairs too.
Gail called a few days ago to say there will be a fall event piece called Feasty Fest, due out in November.  It will have mold and color variations and of course, one special jeweled piece.  This year’s edition features a cornucopia, overflowing with fruits and vegetables, and a turkey.

Last Meeting:  We spent an enjoyable afternoon in Sharin Rosenblatt’s backyard and stuffed ourselves full of pizza and salad.  Richard Callard came closest to guessing the number of  beans in a jar and walked away with the door prize and “Daisy”.  We all finally got to meet our out-of-state member Ardeth Bell, who made the trip from New Jersey.  So glad you came, Ardeth.

Agenda Item:  Harmony Ball and HOP proposed another Paint-Your-Own event to the independent clubs for the fall.  Thanks to Jan Bell, we were able to secure the Veteran’s Hospital in the Valley to hold this event.  They are very enthusiastic with the idea, so it would be wonderful to get as many members as we can to join in to help.
We had great time when we held this event 2 years ago and I apologize that you weren’t given a chance for input this year, but HOP wanted a commitment almost immediately.  I should be receiving 100 kits any day now.  Hmm, where to store them?
What we need to decide at this meeting is a date in which to hold this event.

Events in October:  Both David Lawrence and Adam Binder will be in Southern California in separate artist-signing events.  Janet Cole is having Adam at her store on Sunday October 26, between 12:30 to 3:30 pm.  The event piece will be from the Eden series in ebony, but what it looks like is still a mystery.
David’s event piece features a cat in a traditional English dancing outfit called “Morris On” and will be held on Wednesday October 29th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.  Great prizes abound, so I suspect a lot of us plan to leave work early that day.
You may call Janet at (909) 629-2228 to reserve your pieces.
Unik Gifts in San Bernadino is also holding these events at around the same time, and as far as I know, is the only other retailer in this area.

Hope to see everybody many times in October.

Meet Daisy

Daisy, is our Official Mascot. She and her two siblings were rescued by the Wildlife Waystation from very bad conditions in May 1996.  They were transported from their home in Oklahoma to their new home in Little Tujunga.  Daisy's sister Cookies and her brother Lionel were then sent to the Los Angeles Zoo, where they remain.  Daisy, however, has a missing right leg, so that no zoo wanted her.  Not to worry, however, Daisy is treated wonderfully by the staff at the Wildlife Waystation.  FIH club members can visit her at the Wildlife Waystation upon special request, where she is thriving.
